A survey performed in 2006 by a Portland, Maine based consulting company- Criterium Engineers revealed trends that every buyer should be aware of.  This survey showed that 17% of new homes had "significant issues".  Which is an increase from the previous year.  The survey further revealed that some development projects have a defect rate that is as high as 50%.
